I’d Like to Install Radiant Heat In My Floors, Can I Cover Them With Carpet?

8902409_sRadiant floor heating is a type of heating system that is rapidly gaining in popularity. Many people who decide to do a remodeling job are now considering radiant heat flooring as an alternative to regular heating sources. Radiant floor heating supplies heat directly to the floor via three different methods: radiant air, electric radiant, and hydronic (hot water) radiant. Radiant floor heating has a number of advantages: it is more efficient than baseboard or forced-air heating, it is hypoallergenic, and it can be very energy and cost efficient. Carpet does not conduct heat as well as stone or tile, though, so it may not be quite as effective at heating the entire room. Your toes will certainly be toasty, however, and that makes carpet a decent choice over your radiant floors. Just be sure that you use a thick pad, and a thin carpet with low pile.
